Tuition
I teach Maths, English, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning, in any combination. I help children who want to take the 11+ or entrance tests for independent schools, but I also offer general help in Maths and/or English at any stage, right up to GCSE level, and in the last few years more of my pupils have been in Years 9 to 11.
I tailor lessons for the individual, and lessons are balanced in accordance with the child’s needs, and are all about building skills and confidence.
For those working towards GCSEs, we go over the skills needed in both Maths and English that might need more work ( as required) , and also practise with past papers. I read all the English Literature texts that the pupils are studying, obviously!
Some parents are not sure whether they want their child to go ahead with entrance tests when they begin tuition. That’s fine; it is a decision that can be made later on. I make sure that we keep our options covered and anxiety levels to a minimum.
Children sitting for the grammar tests will concentrate on Maths, English Comprehension and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, with emphasis on getting used to the multiple choice format.
The tests for independent schools are generally in January, so for the last term we would concentrate on written skills for the composition and comprehension papers, whilst keeping up with Maths, and Reasoning where necessary.
I endeavour to help all my students achieve their potential by giving them encouragement, understanding and individual attention.
